Rules
The regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing, the International Lightning Class Rules, the Notice of Race, and the Sailing Instructions.
2. Advertising
As permitted under ILCA class rules Article 8, paragraph 2.
3. Eligibility
Skipper (helmsman) must be a Life, Active or Associate Member who meets the require-ments as defined in the ILCA Constitution. Crew must be Active, Life, Crew, or Associate Members of the ILCA and shall be designated distinctly as Crew.
4. Fees
Entry Fee et al $150.00

6. Measurement
Each boat shall produce a valid measurement certificate. In addition the required ILCA measurements may be taken.
7. Sailing Instructions
The Sailing Instructions will be available at registration.
8. Venue
The Sailing Instructions will indicate racing area.
9. Courses
The courses will be the windward-leeward type.
10. Scoring
Seven (7) races are scheduled. A minimum of one race must be completed to constitute a Regatta. The Low Point Scoring System, as provided in Appendix "A" of the RRS will
Apply. If the number of races completed is less than six, all races will be scored. All
regularly scheduled, abandoned, or postponed races not started by 1530 hours on June 29, 2008 shall be abandoned, the regatta terminated and scored on the basis of the race or races sailed. A race shall be deemed to have started by the deadline if the original start is within the deadline, regardless of subsequent recalls or postponements.
The 2008 Canadian Open Lightning Championship will be used for the Canadian qualifier for the 2009 World Championship.
11. Awards
Temple Reef Sailing Club will present awards to crews placing 1st to 5th.
12. Disclaimer of Liability
The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.

Weather Information

Winds are predominately from the West and occasionally from the East. During the course of a day, the wind will start out light in the morning, 0-9 km/hr. by 10:00 a..m. Winds will build to 10-12 km/h and have a tendency to drop off by around 5pm.

Note:There are significant thermal effects on the wind as a result of the cool air over Lake Superior and the warming of the land over the day.

For this time of year, the average daytime temperature is 15.8 C (61 F). The daytime maximum temperature averages 22.6 C (72 F). The average evening minimum temperature is 9.15 C (48F).

The average rainfall is 87mm/month.

Wave heights average 1 metre (3.28 ft) depending on wind direction and speed.
